How HerMD / Joi compares

The combined HerMD and Joi platform occupies a distinct position in women's hormonal health telehealth: while most menopause platforms (Gennev, Midi, Stella) focus on traditional HRT for vasomotor and genitourinary symptoms, the Joi platform adds testosterone therapy for women, peptide treatments, and expanded diagnostic testing — services that are harder to access through conventional OB/GYN telehealth. Compared to Winona or Evernow, which focus narrowly on estrogen and progesterone, Joi covers a broader hormonal optimization framework. The December 2025 acquisition of HerMD by Joi + Blokes consolidated HerMD's established clinical reputation in sexual health and menopause with Joi's national telehealth infrastructure, creating a 50-state platform with over 50,000 patients treated. The combined service is positioned between clinical menopause care and functional hormone optimization.

About

HerMD was a Cincinnati-based women's health organization founded in 2018 that built a clinical reputation as one of the few practices in the country dedicated to the full spectrum of women's sexual health: vulvodynia, dyspareunia, low libido, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, HSDD (hypoactive sexual desire disorder), and pelvic floor dysfunction. Under its founding medical director, the practice became a referral destination for patients who had been dismissed or undertreated in conventional gynecology. HerMD operated brick-and-mortar clinics in Ohio and added telehealth as a complementary channel; by 2024, citing ongoing challenges in healthcare economics, HerMD closed all of its physical locations and announced plans to relaunch as a virtual-only service. In December 2025, Joi + Blokes acquired HerMD in a deal that consolidated two women's hormonal health platforms into one of the largest virtual specialty care networks in the United States. Joi + Blokes was itself founded as a platform offering personalized hormone health pathways for both women (Joi) and men (Blokes), with a focus that extended beyond conventional HRT to include testosterone therapy, peptide protocols, and functional hormone optimization. At the time of acquisition, the combined platform reported more than 50,000 patients treated across all 50 states. The acquisition brings together HerMD's established clinical identity in sexual health and menopause with Joi's national telehealth infrastructure and broader hormonal services menu. For patients, this means access to a 30–60 minute clinician visit covering traditional menopause hormone therapy alongside testosterone for women, peptides, and expanded diagnostics — a scope that goes beyond what most menopause-focused telehealth platforms offer. The platform is virtual-only following the closure of HerMD's physical clinics, serving patients in all 50 states through video consultations and direct-to-patient medication shipping. For women who have been told their hormonal concerns are not significant enough for treatment, or who want a platform that takes testosterone and functional optimization as seriously as estrogen management, the combined HerMD/Joi platform represents one of the few telehealth options in the category with the clinical range to address those needs.

Pricing

The Joi platform offers an a la carte menopause care option starting at approximately $50/month for access to hormonal therapy medications not fully covered by insurance, including testosterone for women. Complete pricing for the combined HerMD/Joi platform following the December 2025 acquisition was not fully disclosed at time of writing; patients are advised to check the current plan options at hermd.com or joi.com. HerMD's previous in-office services are no longer available following the closure of physical clinics.

Who this is best for

Women who want a virtual care platform that goes beyond standard estrogen/progesterone HRT to include testosterone therapy, peptide treatments, and detailed hormonal diagnostics — particularly patients experiencing low libido, fatigue, or body composition changes that may have a testosterone or peptide component alongside estrogen decline. It is also well-suited for former HerMD patients who valued that platform's expertise in sexual health and are transitioning to the new virtual-only Joi model. It is not the right fit for patients who primarily want insurance-covered care (Joi is largely cash-pay), those who prefer in-person gynecological exams, or patients seeking a narrowly focused traditional HRT platform.

What to expect

New patients on the Joi platform complete an online intake covering hormonal symptoms, health history, and treatment goals. A clinician reviews the intake and conducts a 30–60 minute video consultation to discuss options including HRT, testosterone, peptides, or combination protocols. Expanded diagnostic lab panels are available to establish a comprehensive hormonal baseline. Following the consultation, a personalized treatment plan is prescribed and medications are shipped directly from licensed pharmacies. Follow-up care is managed through the platform with regular check-ins and messaging access.
